Just going to jump in here, I have heard very good that NGOs about chromebooks, (there is also chromium so for non proprietary). The one thing to watch out for is arm processors (unless you're expecting it). I believe the Toshiba chromebook 2 is the laptop being referenced below.

In short, chromebook seem to be doing pretty well with regards to decent battery life, easy use, and not Microsoft
