[EdLUG] X windows decoration

Guys
At a point, either after an upgrade of my Ubuntu 20.04 ystem , or the need
to perform a hard reset after the keyboard and mouse hung, my windows have
lost the decorations to move the focus between windows. e,g. I can open an
xerm from the xfce  panel, but cannot move focus or resize it.
How can I do to quickly  restore normal service ?
I have root command line access on tty1.
