[EdLUG] An idea for August in lieu of regular meetup

Hi all

Summer is upon us, and locals know what that means: the Festival is around
the corner! `(*cheers*|*groans*)`

As per EdLUG tradition, August would normally be a BBQ event some week-end
instead of the regular meetup. Most places are fully crammed due to the
Festival, and we would probably only find a pub way out that would allow us
to meet for free.

But here's a mad idea for a different activity...

If anybody is of a thespian persuasion, writing and performing a short
play/skit around GNU/Linux and FOSS could be fun. Perhaps something about
Linux magically giving old computers a new lease of life ; or the woes of
software as a service. Very niche, but isn't that part of the group's very
foundations?

We could then do it in the streets amongst unsuspecting user^[^[^[tourists,
and garner some interest in a novel fashion... Business cards to the
website, to a page pointing at various websites for more information to be
given out at the end of the skit - instead of putting money in a hat,
encourage people to take business cards out of it.

Hit me up if you'd want to put a writing & performance team together! Any
level of ability is welcome -- for my part, I used to be in school and uni
acting groups on-and-off, and have dabbled in writing, at a very amateur
level ; I'm sure I can also work a contact or two to try and get a
writing/thesp workshop some week-end afternoon.

I know this is quite late in the year to be suggesting this ; but whilst
there is some idea of advocacy to it, my main goal is to have some
theatrical fun ;-)

PS - this was going to be in the main email, but I thought better than to
burden that thing with too much guff...!
