Ubuntu flavours on 16.04 are Long Term Supported/LTS and supported til 2019
as previously mentioned.


Not sure how you got the impression you were out of support ?



Unless you are keen to follow the progress of Ubuntu release-by-release
every 6 months, you should probably stay with 16.04 ; your next upgrade
opportunity will then be Ubuntu 18.04 in April next year.


Please don't recommend going to non-LTS versions without specific reason -
unless you are ready to take up the mantle of tech supporting it ;-)
