Dear EdLUGgers

Our next meeting will be on the Thursday 2nd of April - and I have a
speaker :-)

This coming month I have managed to bring in Douglas McCallum , organiser
of the TechMeetup Edinburgh event, who will be giving us a rundown on:

*Using Go in the Real World*

Go is a programming language
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Go_%28programming_language%29> created by
Google which has been seeing more coverage in the media recently; with
C-like syntax, aim for readability and simplicity of use, garbage
collection, compile to machine code and package management, it seems to be
somewhere between C and Python, and it is gaining in much popularity since
its release in 2009. It has a GCC version called *gccgo*.
Douglas has been a developer in a wide range of industries for many years
who, amongst other activities, deploys RPis to project ads at unsuspecting
passers-by with dynamic content where they least expect it.

(Go looks like an interesting language, and the combined features mentioned
above make it sound really attractive for more robust tinkering - running
it on the Pi (and other ARM embedded devices thus) being a compelling
example...)

The meeting will be in the back room of the Southsider Pub, West Richmond
Street, Edinburgh. The talk should kick off shortly after 7:30pm. After the
talk, there will be time for socializing, with light bites and a chance to
catch up with attendees.

See you all there!

Tai
