Not done anything of the sort myself - but searching for "generic bios"
turns up Coreboot - that said, they don't indicate support for your
particular motherboard

Don't know whether there's anything else that can be searched on. You could
check about re-flashing the backup BIOS if it exists, and if you can do
that.... it's time to experiment :-)
HP have just freshly come out with a commitment statement of "backing open
source" but it seems firmware is not yet included in the roster...
