Dunno. What ae you trying to install?
Are you trying to install Windows itself, (I suppose not, if WINE is involved)
or applications designed to run under Windows?
Is the pop-up window coming from one of those installers, or from Wine?
I can't think of any installer that I've run from/under Windows that uses a
drop-down menu to ask where something should be placed. They
normally just ask for the path to a directory.
Installers for Windows applications are sometimes not needed (under
Windows, I mean). Some authors provide "portable" versions which
are merely zipped up collections of files that one can place where
one wants, if one knows how to, set up one's own shortcuts if one
needs them etc.
There's also "Portable Apps" which are something different, but as
(under Windows) those install as standalone programs (which could
be put on a USB stick ... but in my case I put them on an SSD but
outwith the normal Windows directories) and it's possible those
would work better under Wine as they're already designed not to
be in standard Windows locations.
It's worth hunting for the simpler option, if it exists.
