Hi all,

No actual talk is planned for June - so we can take a sociable breather!

As usual, light-bites will be made available for attendees.

Meeting will be in the back room of the Southsider pub, West Richmond
Street, Edinburgh from 7:30pm.

That being said, I thought it might be of interest to have a mini
show-and-tell of open source software, and Linux distro installs for
beginners and curious hobbyists, when no specialist talks are on.

As such, I'd like to propose starting an "*OpenSource for All 101*"
show-and-tell series, and sending a wider invite out to anybody remotely
interested in discovering Linux and open source.

It will be aimed at computing-neophytes in general and would happen for
meetings without technical talks.

I'm thinking of using the TV still, but only presenting to the front of the
room, so those who want it to still be a social let it be so.

I would kick off the series with either:

-"*Trying Linux (or how to kick the Linux tyres before replacing Windows)*"
-- doing and install-and-demo of Ubuntu MATE in VirtualBox (later sessions
can do run downs of other home-Linux distros pros and cons)

-"*Finding apps you can trust (Finding and downloading Open Source Free
Software to avoid viruses and other Windows nasties)*" -- reviewing how to
look for alternatives to proprietary applications and not get
adware/spyware on top of it in Windows specifically... (later sessions can
focus on specific software, like LibreOffice or GIMP and Krita)

I would present the first ones, and anyone who would like to contribute or
talk about software that gets the fired up, or their trials and solutions
with Linux, is free to do so. What thinks the group?

If a majority of "No", no worries. Just the musings of a Monday morning :-)
