Hi Mike

In the March update email I asked if there were any areas that we would want to look at. So far the only response I've seen relates to the proposed use of NHS data for cross referencing other data bases. As this is a devolved issue it is unlikely to be seen as an issue for the General Election (though I could be wrong). It is certainly something that should be addressed and the Open Right Group in Edinburgh are certainly campaigning against this.

As a technical group I personally feel that the areas we campaign on should fall within our groups remit so whilst austerity is something that I'm sure we have strong opinions about, it isn't something we can widely address as a group. That is not to say that we can't address the cost to the public sector of proprietary software licences and the savings that can be made by adopting FLOSS alteratives.

At the last meeting Tai and I discussed running an install day and one issue that we hit is having a viable space. Our normal monthly meetings are held in the back room of a pub, which isn't ideal. Hopefully, we will come up with a solution. As always any events will be advertised here and on the calendar of our website.

I hope this helps, but please feel free to get back in touch if you have more questions or suiggestions.

Regards

Jan
